IRVING, Texas — The Big 12 Conference released its Women’s Basketball league schedule for the upcoming 2015-16 season Friday, featuring an earlier start date to allow each team to have a bye during conference play. Dates may be adjusted after the television schedule is released at a later date.

For the fifth straight year, the conference schedule features a double round-robin format consisting of 18 games, with league members playing each other twice. The team(s) that finishes with the highest winning percentage in league games will be crowned the Big 12 regular season champion.

The Longhorns’ conference opener will be on the road at West Virginia on Wednesday, December 30. The league’s regular season schedule will conclude for Texas with a game at Baylor on Monday, Feb. 29.

Texas, under the direction of fourth-year coach Karen Aston, returns five starters and 11 letterwinners from last year’s team, which posted a 24-11 overall record and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16.

UT previously announced its non-conference slate in June.

Oklahoma City’s Chesapeake Energy Arena will host the 2016 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championship for the fourth time. The postseason event was also contested in Oklahoma City in 2014, 2009 and 2007 with a conference-record average attendance of 8,165 recorded in 2007. The women’s championship will remain in Oklahoma City through the 2019 campaign.

Two first round matchups will be played on Friday, March 4, followed by quarterfinals on Saturday, March 5. Semifinals are scheduled for Sunday, March 6 with the final contested on Monday, March 7. The winner earns the Big 12’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship.
