Bettye June Cowart Rice, died Sunday the 26th of June, 2016 at Prairie Estates Nursing Home in Frisco, Texas after a long illness. Bettye was born on June 21, 1933, in Jarrell, Texas.
She was a long time resident of Oak Cliff and Duncanville and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Duncanville. Bettye worked at Burroughs Computer (Unisys, Corporation), Dallas as a Customer Service Representative for over 20 years until she retired in April, 1989. Bettye loved all the Dallas sports teams and followed the Cowboys and Rangers with a passion. She attended as many games as possible and did not miss a televised event. An aired Cowboy’s game with her and father, Marlin, was loud, emotional and fun for everyone.
Bettye is survived by her daughter, Vickie McCauley and her husband, Vance of Gunter, Texas, “second daughter”, Toni Brown and husband, Gary of Duncanville, Grandson, Cory McCauley and his wife, Yvonne of Allen, Texas, Granddaughters, Kelli Jo Rehn and her husband, Michael of McKinney, Texas and Courtney Brown of Dallas, Texas. She was a proud great grandmother to Natalie, Olivia and Katie Jo. She is also survived by sister, Doris Oler of Ft. Worth, Texas and brother, Jim Cowart and wife, Lynn of Kalamazoo, Michigan. Bettye also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Marlin and Ruth Cowart of Duncanville, Texas.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
