Bertha Patlan passed away peacefully on December 6, 2017. She was surrounded by her children, family and friends after a beautiful journey of 80 years here on earth. She battled and conquered cancer after being diagnosed at 78 years of age. Bertha is admired for her faith, strength and courage.

She was born in Carrizo Springs, TX on January 8, 1937 to Maria and Feliciano Patlan, Sr. Her early life as a migrant worker in the fields of South Texas would prepare her for the challenges and victories throughout her life’s journey. 

She enrolled in nursing school and was among the few to successfully complete her rigorous training and become an LVN. A career that would span over 40 years. She earned a reputation as an outstanding caregiver who demonstrated a no-nonsense approach with a servant’s heart. She had a sterling reputation and received high commendations throughout her career.

After a successful career in nursing, Bertha retired in May 2000. She enjoyed traveling and spending time visiting family members. Her hobbies and favorite past time activities would include her daily conversations with her sisters, going to estate sales, reading, watching her favorite news programs, sports teams and telenovelas. Most of all one of her biggest joys in life was being a grandmother to her six grandchildren whom she loved to brag and boast about. She leaves a legacy of pride, perseverance, an unmatched work ethic and her unique love for each of them.

Bertha is survived by her loving daughter, Diana and her husband Benicio Rios, Jr.; sons David and Jesse Patlan and her grandchildren; Marisa and Juan Patlan, Kennedy and Madison Patlan, Madeline and Benicio Rios, III. She will be deeply missed by her sisters and brothers; Lupe and Tommy Richardson, Yolanda and Gilbert Romero, Sr.; Nancy and Juan Patlan, Brenda and Mario Patlan, Sr.; Albert Patlan and Maria Walker, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Juan and Feliciano Patlan, Jr. who are rejoicing with her in heaven today. 

Visitation and Rosary will be held from 6-8 pm on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at Jaynes Memorial Chapel, 811 S. Cockrell Hill Road, Duncanville, TX 75137.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 am on Monday, December 11, 2017 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 2910 Corn Valley Road, Grand Prairie, TX 75052.

Interment following service at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, 1500 S. Westmoreland Road, DeSoto, TX 75115.
