2125731_300x300_1Smith, Ben Stanley, born January 19, 1931 in Dallas, Texas and went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 3, 2013.

He began his career as a masonry contractor and became a custom home builder for many years in the Duncanville area. He served as the president of the Texas Masonry Contractors Association in 1969, Home & Apartment Builders Association in 1977, and Kiwanis Club in 1988. Ben loved the outdoors, both hunting and fishing with his friends, sons, and grandsons. He was a devoted and faithful servant of God serving as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, song leader, and served on many church mission trips throughout North and South America. He met the love of his life, Vema and on January 20, 2013 they celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary. Most of all, Ben loved people. If you ever met him, you met a friend.

He is preceded in death by his parents George and Nettie Smith, sister Doris Kidd, brothers Glenn, Don, and Robert Smith, and granddaughter Kathy Elaine Smith.

He is survived by his wife Vema Jo Smith, sisters Letha Fair and Claudine Hoover, son Stanley Smith and wife Kathy, son Randy Smith and wife Jennifer, daughter Kerri SmithMensik and husband Dave, daughter Terri Smith Crawford and husband Mark, grandchildren: Cory Smith, Traci Mensik Kana and husband Ryan, Casey Crawford and wife Amber, Justin Smith, Ashley Mensik, Courtney Crawford, and Jacob Mensik. Great-grandchildren: Cohen Crawford, Mason Kana, Carter Smith, and Aubrey Kana. And “adopted” family: Joe, Yonne, Nick, and Natalie Chong.

Visitation will be 6-8 pm Thursday, March 7, 2013 at David Clayton & Sons.

Service will be 10 am Friday, March 8, at Faith Baptist Church in Duncanville
