DBU Basketball kicked off the 2011-2012 season with their 6th Annual Midnight Madness and Street Party, conducted jointly by DBU Athletics and Student Life. The night began with Street Party – a combination of food, games, music, and contests. Students and fans alike took part in the festivities which led up to Midnight Madness in The Burg Center.
Fans were greeted by DBU Cheerleaders, Patriettes, Minutemen, and the DBU Mascot who fed the excitement of the evening with routines and skits to set up the introduction of the 2011-2012 Patriot Basketball Team. After a show of dunks and near-dunks, Head Coach Blake Flickner and his Red Team squared off against Associate Head Coach Brandon Curran and his squad in blue.
The modified scrimmage tipped off just after midnight and consisted of two ten minute halves with the Red Team outscoring the Blue Team, 48-33. The Red Team’s Jordan McGowen led all scorers with 11 points in 11 minutes after going 4-5 from the field, including hitting on his only attempt from three-point range. His teammate, TJ Clark, added 10 points, most of them coming from his 2-2 performance from beyond the arc.
The story of the night was shooting percentage as the Red Team shot 83.3% in the second half to finish at 68% while the Blue Team shot only 50% in the final frame to finish the night at 56%.
Dallas Baptist Patriot Basketball will open the exhibition season on the road, November 3, as they travel to College Station to take on the Aggies of Texas A&M. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
