On Tuesday night in Wichita, Kansas, Dallas Baptist tried to become the first team in nine tries to defeat Newman University inside Fugate Gymnasium. They also tried to hand Newman their first conference loss after watching the Jets win their first five games in Heartland play. But on both accounts, the Patriots came up short, 85-69, and dropped their own conference record to 2-2. Nick Fox was one of the few bright spots for DBU, though, as he scored 31 points to lead all-scorers and also grabbed four rebounds.

DBU found themselves down by 12 at the end of the first half thanks mostly to 24% shooting as the Patriots missed 19 of their first 25 shots. The second half was better as they shot 50% in the final twenty minutes but it was too little, too late for the visiting squad.

Jordan McGowen led DBU with six rebounds and chipped in 13 points while he and Armie Lewis led the team with three steals apiece. But Newman shot 50% on the night and twice held 16 point leads in the game, including leading by that amount when the final buzzer sounded.

The Patriots will try to recover and find their shooting touch on Saturday as they travel to Fort Smith, Arkansas to take on Arkansas-Fort Smith at 1:00 pm.
