The Dallas Baptist Patriot 2012 Baseball Schedule will feature 15 games against teams that competed in 2010 NCAA Tournament, highlighted by an early season three-game series in Houston against the Rice Owls. Head Coach Dan Heefner, entering his fifth year at the helm of the Patriots, announced the schedule Thursday afternoon.
The Patriots are scheduled to split their 56 games – 28 at home and 28 on the road. They will open the season at home with a three game set against Southeast Missouri beginning on Friday, February 17. Their next four contests will then be on the road with their first midweek game against Regional Participant Oklahoma State followed by the Rice series. In all, 11 of the first 16 games in 2012 will be played at Patriot Field.
The schedule also includes six games against current members of, or teams set to join, the Western Athletic Conference alongside the Patriots in 2013. DBU will host UT-San Antonio on February 28 and UT-Arlington on March 20 before traveling to Ruston, Louisiana for a three-game series with Louisiana Tech March 22 – 24. The Patriots will play at UT-Arlington on May 1 as the final game of an eight-game road swing.
The other weekend series for Dallas Baptist include: Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Houston Baptist, Regional Participant UNC-Charlotte, Missouri State, Prairie View, Southern Illinois, Indiana State, Wichita State, Evansville, Regional Participant Creighton, and Bradley.
Other midweek games in 2012 include World Series Participant Texas, Regional Participant Oklahoma, Sam Houston State, Regional Participant TCU and Texas Tech.
The Patriots will return 17 players from a 2011 team that finished the year 42-20 and won the NCAA Fort Worth Regional before participating in the NCAA Super Regional Tournament in Santa Clara, California. The 2012 season will be the final year the Patriots compete as a Division I Independent before they join the Western Athletic Conference in 2013.
