Dallas Baptist Patriot Baseball has been ranked #33 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association Preseason Poll. This is a twelve spot drop from where the Patriots were placed in the final poll of 2011 after advancing to the NCAA Santa Clara Super Regional, but is the first time in program history the team has been ranked in the preseason poll. DBU will open the 2012 season on February 17 at home against Southeast Missouri State.

In all, Dallas Baptist will face 11 different teams that received votes in the NCBWA preseason poll, highlighted by #7 Texas and an early-season series at #8 Rice. TCU and Oklahoma, two teams the Patriots defeated in the 2011 Fort Worth Regional, round out opponents in the Top 15 at #13 and #14, respectively.

The poll voters come from 40 college baseball writers and related media persons from throughout the nation. After a preseason Top 35 listing, the remainder of the polls will feature a Top 30, beginning with the February 21 NCBWA survey.

The Patriots return 17 letterwinners from the 2011 squad, including six position player starters and several of their top relievers. They will look to replace the void on the mound left by Brandon Williamson, Jared Stafford and Chris Haney but with a large portion of the bullpen returning and strong options for a starting rotation, the Patriots will look to build on last year’s 42-20 record and historic run through the postseason.

The 20th Annual Baseball Banquet will kick off the season, February 10, with former Patriot and current Tampa Bay Ray Ben Zobrist set as the keynote speaker.
