The DBU Patriot Ice hockey finished the semester with a two game sweep over the University of New Mexico Lobos, the only team to have handed the Patriots a regulation loss this season. Friday’s game ended with a final score of 8-2 and Saturday’s game ended 4-1. The Patriots wrapped up the fall semester with a record of 20-1-0-1 and sit atop the West Division standings with 41 points and are ranked 15th in the region.

rp_primary_DSC_0081DBU has scored an impressive 171 goals so far this season, which is the best in all of ACHA hockey. Freshman Bobby Jones is scoring at a pace that has him leading the nation with 35 goals and 83 points in just 20 games. Jones’ line-mates Matt Bassett and Micah Koutros, are each tied for second in the nation with 54 points; a combination that has proven to be one of the best in the country.

The defensive core has allowed only 55 goals on the year which is among the lowest in the
nation.  Goaltender Colton Reece has a 90 percent save percentage and on September 29 against Memphis, made history as he recorded the first ever shutout in Patriot history.

DBU Hockey started the season strong with six straight wins, but finished the semester on an even more impressive 12 game winning streak. The Patriots hope to continue this winning streak next semester with a home series against the University of Louisiana-Lafayette on January 18 & 19 in Dallas.
