The Duncanville High School Marching Band and High Hats won their 32nd consecutive Sweepstakes award at the UIL Region 20 5A Marching Contest on Saturday, October 15. They earned Superior ratings from all three judges. “You define for me musicianship on the field,” commented Executive Director for the Texas Bandmasters Association and judge Mike Brashear. “Simply amazing musicians in every section,” added Director of Bands at Weatherford ISD and judge Joe Dolkus. “So very mature musically. You folks are in one incredible musical organization.”
Directors of the DHS Marching Band and High Hats are David Brandon, George Townsend, Mark Teal, William Pitts, Kristi Beaty, Tasha Evans, Britney Cook, Kenneth Thompson, Arwyn Benson, Casey O’Neal, and Jeff King. This year’s show is titled For Whom the Bell Tolls. Musical selections are The Promise of Living by Aaron Copland, String Quartet #4, Movement 5 by Bela Bartok, Farewell to Dobbyfrom Harry Potter by Alexandre Desplat, and Copland’s Organ Symphony. Arrangements were written by William Pitts and Mark Teal.
In case you missed the prize performance, you have another opportunity coming up to see this year’s show. The DHS Marching Band and High Hats will perform in exhibition at the Duncanville Marching Invitational on Saturday, October 29. The competition is being held at Panther Stadium beginning at 9:30 am.
