The carefree days of summer are winding down, and Duncanville ISD athletes and their coaches are preparing for another season of competition. All Panther coaches attended their first full staff meeting of the year on Friday, August 3, with state-required training on concussion prevention, recognition, and treatment, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, automated external defibrillator (AED) use, and UIL rule compliance.
Coaches also reviewed federal guidelines on privacy issues regarding student inclusion in district and news media coverage. Based on the achievements of our Panther teams last year, Athletic Director and Girls Basketball Coach Cathy Self-Morgan expects plenty of public attention for all of our players.
Self-Morgan reflects over previous achievements and looks ahead to this year:
“The 2011-2012 athletic season was very successful. DHS grils basketball andour 4/400 boys track relay won state in class 5-A. We had one swimmer and one tennis player also advance to the state tournaments. Out of 19 varsity athletic teams, 12 teams advanced to the playoffs beyond district. Great thinkgs are going to continue to happen in Duncanville Athletics as we move into the 2012-2013 school year. Go Panthers!!”
Monday, August 6 will see the kickoff of high school volleyball, as well as cross-country tryouts and football practices as teams prepare for the upcoming season.
