Hannah Innes, a senior member of the Lady Patriot Women’s Tennis Team, has been named the 2011-2012 Heartland Conference Sportsmanship Award Recipient for her outstanding example of true integrity throughout the season.

Nominated by each institution’s Director of Athletics, the Sportsmanship Award honors a student-athlete who consistently displays the core values of ethics and integrity while promoting a positive environment for competition.

“Hannah always plays with poise and focus,” said Ryan Erwin, DBU Directof of Athletics. “In tennis, players are required to call their own lines. In the Heartland semifinals, Hannah called a shot out, but quickly corrected her call to give her opponent the point.  It seems like such a small thing, but in an important conference championship match, it really illustrates how Hannah always treats opponents and the game with the utmost respect.  Sportsmanship is a defining value in intercollegiate athletics and Hannah has served as an excellent example for other student-athletes and fans during her four years as a Lady Patriot.”

Innes, a native of Melbourne, Australia, was also named the 2011-2012 Heartland Conference Senior of the Year in tennis as well as the 2011-2012 Female Athlete of the Year at Dallas Baptist.   She is a three-time selection to the All-Heartland First Team and has helped lead the Lady Patriots to numerous regional rankings, and was a member of all three NCCAA National Championship Teams in 2009, 2010, and 2011.
