Freshman Jacob Sepeda and Freshman Trent Newman caught a five fish limit for a total of 11-0 pounds even on day one of the Boat U.S. National Championship on Lake Pickwick. Out of the 182 team field, Sepeda and Newman currently stand in 63rd place, 15lbs behind the first place team who managed to catch an impressive 26lb sack on the Tennessee River system.
“Today was tough due to the fact that the fish that we found in practice weren’t there – we just couldn’t find them. We had to adjust by finding new water and resorting to something that we were confident in and managed to get our five,” stated Sepeda. Sepeda was able to catch three of the five fish that were weighed in for the 11lb total.
Newman added, “We are just going to take what we discovered today in to tomorrow, but will be open for adjustments in day two.” Newman hooked the biggest fish out of the five today which weighed in at roughly four pounds.
Also representing the Patriot Bass Team and fishing solo was Senior Trey Bledsoe who managed to catch four fish by himself for a total weight of 5.50lbs. Bledsoe currently stands in 145th place out of the 182 team field.
