The Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees adopted the 2011/12 fiscal year budget at a special called meeting on Monday, August 22 which included a public hearing. The adopted total general fund budget is $94.2 million and the adopted tax rate will remain the same as the past five years at $1.418 (Maintenance and Operations rate of $1.04 and Debt Service rate of $0.378).
The adopted budget includes a 10% district-wide departmental budget reduction totaling $415,000 as well as other cost saving initiatives like the implementation of a four-tier bus schedule that saved the district $190,000, and reduction of staffing positions through attrition totaling $150,000. But the state legislature’s decision to cut approximately $4.4 billion from school funding this summer means the district will need to use $7 million of Fund Balance to fund the Board of Trustees 21st Century Learning Goals and to offset Duncanville ISD’s state imposed $5.1 million funding shortfall – a scenario that will continue when the district receives another $2 million less for the 12/13 school year.
Duncanville ISD’s fiscal planning over the past four years has positioned the district to temporarily manage through this loss in funds. However, a long-term solution to school funding is needed for all Texas districts and for the future of Texas children.View 2011-12 Budget Presentation.
