DBU Golf Competes at NCCAA National Championship in Florida

The leaderboard at the NCCAA National Championship in Florida has become the Battle of the Baptists as Dallas Baptist and California Baptist compete for first place on both the men’s and women’s side of the draw.

After Day 1 on the men’s side, DBU is three shots off the California Baptist pace after shooting a 9-over, 297. Individually, Senior Brandon Johnson had an outstanding day and leads the tournament by three shots after carding a 4-under, 68. Austin Struble is tied for 14th with a Round One 75 and Jamie Youree trails him by one shot. Charles Gibson and Mason Horner shot 78 and 83 respectively to help keep the Patriots within striking distance going into Tuesday’s play.

The DBU Lady Patriots are tied atop the leaderboard with California Baptist after both teams brought in identical 325 scores (+37). Mercedes Rios and Chelsey Sills lead the Lady Patriots as they sit tied for fourth after carding 7-over, 79. Erin Barrington shot 83 and both Laken Trahan and Kailey Glenn shot 84. Each of the Lady Patriots are in the Top 15 for the tournament.

Both teams will look to climb their respective leaderboards as they tee off Tuesday morning at Hombre Golf Club in Panama City, Florida.
