The Duncanville Panthers hosted the Houston Bellaire Cardinals on Tuesday and came away with the 70-65 victory, largely in part to the 33-point contribution of Miles McDougal.
The Panthers came into the game ranked #13 by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC), with the Cardinals ranked #9 in the state.
Duncanville came out of the gate strong and out-scored Bellaire 21-14 in the first quarter, but the Bellaire defense clamped down and held the Panthers to just 6 points in the second quarter and closed the gap to a 27-25 lead for Duncanville at the half.
In the second half Duncanville came out strong again and ran the score to 48-36 in the third and then held on in the final period as Bellaire outscored the Panthers 29-22 to take the 70-65 win.
McDougal’s 33 points was the high scorer for the game, with Dexter Johnson’s 18 points being the only other Panther in double-digits.
Bench play was a big factor in the game as nine Panthers scored for Duncanville, compared to only six for Houston Bellaire.
Leading for Cardinals was Vanderbilt signee Max Evans with 25 points. Also in double-digits for Bellaire was Christian Brandon with 11 points and Adrian Ragland with 10 points.
