122 Adopted in Clear the Shelters Event

This past weekend was a nationwide adoption event called Clear the Shelters. When I walked into Tri-City Animal Shelter on Saturday morning, more than 30 staff and volunteers were huddled up getting last minute instructions before opening the doors. Outside, there was a line all the way down the sidewalk. At 9:30 sharp, doors opened and families streamed into the shelter, approved adoption applications in hand, hoping to find their new dog or cat.

By the end of the day, 122 animals had been adopted. 122!! That’s virtually an entire month of adoptions in just one day. Thank you to the team at Tri-City who made this day happen, and to all the families who came out and adopted!

The Friends of Tri-City Animal Shelter LOVE adoption! That’s why we contribute over $50,000 each year to support adoptions at Tri-City. The funds we raise subsidize each adoption by $35, which does two things:

1. Our funding ensures that every single animal adopted at Tri-City Animal Shelter is spayed or neutered before going to their new home. We’ve supported over 5,000 spays and neuters since 2013. We’re chipping away at pet overpopulation (and overflowing shelters) one animal at a time.

2. Our subsidy helps keep the cost of adoption affordable for our community. It currently only costs $75 to adopt from Tri-City, which is a bargain considering most animals receive over $300 in services including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchip, and a free month of pet insurance. We are committed to keeping the adoption fee under $100 so that Tri-City dogs and cats have the best chance of finding a home.

The month of September is paramount to maintaining the pre-adoption spay/neuter program. We are actually projected to raise over 40% of our annual operating budget in a single week this year. Our two largest fundraisers are just around the corner: North Texas Giving Day will take place on Thursday, September 14th, and our 9th Annual Paws, Claws & Outlaws Gala will be held on Saturday, September 16th.

We could not do any of this work without you — our donors, sponsors, and loyal supporters. Please consider making a gift on North Texas Giving Day and attending the Gala so we can all continue to support Tri-City Animal Shelter and the dogs and cats waiting for a fur-ever family.

With gratitude,
